The Renault 4 (other names: Renault R3, R4 or 4L) is a French passenger car that was first presented to the public in 1961. Its serial production started in the same year and lasted until 1992, so the model was produced for over 30 years! Production took place in several cities, but the most important plants producing this model were in Billancourt, France.
Renault 4 was developed and put into production to replace the aging 4CV model on the one hand, and to engage in an equal market battle with the legendary Citroen 2CV on the other hand. During the project, all the advantages and disadvantages of the market rival have been carefully studied and the lessons learned were introduced into the new Renault model. Finally, Renault 4 turned out to be a considerable market success, as evidenced not only by the long production, but also by the production of over 8 million copies of this vehicle! The car was offered in several body versions, as: 5-door hatchback, 2-door pick-up or 2-door panel van. A wide range of 4-cylinder engines with a capacity of 0.6 to 1.3 liters served as the drive.
